Potatoes Au Gratin Recipe

These potatoes are the ideal comfort food and have become a family favorite.

                 This recipe is SPECIAL.

The ingredients are basic and the recipe is simple, but the taste is pure PERFECTION.

RICH WARM CREAMY and HEAVENLY are just a few of the words that describe them.

Potatoes Au Gratin:

4 lbs. russet Potatoes
2 whole Garlic Clove
                       1 1/2 T Sea Salt
2 tsp fresh cracked Black Pepper
                      1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
                      2 1/2 c Heavy Cream

 Preheat oven to 350F

Crack open the garlic cloves and break them up slightly.  Rub the insides of a 9″x11″ baking dish. Set aside.

Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.  Place the sliced potatoes into a large bowl and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Using your hands, toss the potatoes to coat evenly.

Pour the potatoes into the baking dish and smoothe the top so everything is level.  Pour cream over the potatoes. (Just to the point where you can press down on the top layer and the potato slices disappear under the cream.) Give a couple presses down on top.

Put in the oven and bake for a total of 1 1/2 hours:
Every 20 minutes, open oven and with the back of a large spoon, break the crust that the cream is starting to form. For the final 20-30 minutes, leave everything untouched to form a golden top.

Remove from oven and allow to cool, before serving

  1. This looks so good. I have never made these before because I thought they were more work. These look worth it. Thanks for sharing.
